G2.Kinguin take the first match of the day against Cloud9 2-1 on de_cache (17-19), de_train (16-13), and de_cobblestone (16-6) to move on to the winner's match.
G2 powered through to win the match in three maps
Cloud9 came out guns blazing on the first map, de_cache, by taking the pistol round on the T side with 4 players surviving. The anti-ecos were also no trouble, putting C9 with the standard 3 round lead. Then Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir put in 4 kills on the fourth round forcing G2 on an eco on the fifth, which the French team lost.
With a 5-0 scoreline, Cédric "RpK" Guipouy got his first entry of several this match, following it up with another frag allowing his team to get on the board. RpK got another first frag on the eighth round, and following it up with two more to put his team up 5v2 and eventually winning the round.
Edouard "SmithZz" Dubourdeaux put up a brick wall on B and stopped C9 pushing in with a quick 4k with his AWP on the tenth round tie the game at 5-5. Rounds were traded, until the 14thround, which RpK took with a huge 4v1—and ace—retake of A site giving his team the lead 6-8.
Going into the pistol round down 6-9, C9 won their second consecutive pistol round of the match, bringing the match back to even all the way until the 22ndround, as the score was tied 11-11. Cloud9 managed to win two in a row, 13-11, putting G2 in an awkward position. The French squad was able to hold on in a crucial round, just to squander the next one by letting Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham defuse in a 2v1 situation with the bomb planted wide open on A the site, as none of the Ts peaked the lonely CT.
C9 set themselves up 15-12, giving them 3 match points to close out the map. Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom had something to say about it, though, and put up two 4k rounds to take the map into overtime.
The overtime went C9’s way, as they won 3-0 on CT side and were able to take the last round of the first and only OT on T side thanks to an all headshots 4k round by newcomer Jake "Stewie2K" Yip.
C9 scraped by de_cache in overtime
It was G2’s turn to start out on the upper hand on de_train, as they took the CT pistol round and both anti-ecos. They put themselves up 6-0 before losing the first round. It was the eighth round, however, which saw G2 falter the first time, as they gave up a 4v1 situation which Skadoodle managed to clutch, planting on B after killing Richard "shox" Papillon, and finishing the rest off thereafter.
Cloud9 then managed to string on the third round in a row, before G2 did the same leaving the score at 9-3. Another three rounds were tied together by C9 to close the half at 9-6, leaving their options open for the second half.
G2 won the T side pistol as well, and ended up with a 12-6 lead. C9, however, would not let the map go without a fight, winning the first two gun rounds and forcing G2 on an eco. An eco that G2 would go on to win with two stunning one deags by shox, putting G2 within two rounds of victory at 14-8.
C9 showed some staying power, however, and brought the game to 14-12. Kévin "Ex6TenZ" Droolans called a timeout for his team, breaking the momentum, and with more trouble than they would have liked G2 got themselves the map point and a shot at taking the series on de_cobblestone.
Shox got his team to the third map
G2 got ahead on the pistol round starting on the CT side, and managed to keep C9 at bay and in a precarious situation as they took a 7-1 lead. After a tactical timeout before an eco round, C9 managed to take a round and a breath leaving the score 8-2.
The win was short lived, however, as G2 won the next round, putting C9 in an incredibly precarious financial situation. After restarting due to a server crash during the 12thround with 9-2 on the scoreboard and a 1v1 after plant situation, another 1v1 after plant situation played out with shox taking the round and putting G2 in double digits, and eventually ending the half 12:3.
G2 took the second pistol, just about closing out the map and the match. C9 managed to win the second eco and a force buy, denying G2 the match point. It wouldn’t take long before G2 closed the match out, though 16-6.
